Most Australian’s don’t like Canberra. Nevertheless, we spent a nice day in the capital of Oz.

31.12 On the last day of the year, we went to see what Canberra had to offer. After a hearty Aussie breakfast, we went to the Parliament building, where Mario, “our” politician, had a lot to see and talk about. This very informative visit filled the whole morning, and after a well-deserved lunch, we went to the War Memorial, which is on the other side of Canberra; basically, it is just down the road 😉 I have to say that this is by far the best war memorial I have seen so far. To commemorate 100 years after the start of WWI, a special exhibition was opened which features a lot of background stories and information about both world wars. We stayed for almost three hours, and as Mario put it right, one could easily spend a whole day there.

To round up our “Canberra in one day” experience, we went up to the Telstra tower, which has a nice view over this small city.
New Year’s Eve was calm, and after some worries of not getting sparkling wine because the bottle shops had temporarily closed because of a power failure, we spent a calm evening waiting for the midnight fireworks, which we watched from Natty’s room. Big thanks again to Natty for having us! We shall be back 😉
