With just one month left in our PhD, we needed a change of scene.

The last couple of weeks Simone and I have been busy writing up all the great things we have done in our PhD – a.k.a. writing a PhD thesis. With a bit over a month left before the hand-in deadline, we decided it was time for a change of scene, and searched for a nice place in the Blue Mountains. Our search ended with the Straw Bale Cottage in Leura, which looked – and was – perfect. The first order of the day was to go gather wood for the fireplace, since it got below zero over night. The cottage was very close to downtown Leura, but felt like it was miles away from “serious” civilization. The most incredible thing about the straw bale cottage we stayed in is that Dan, the owner, built it himself – and he is not an architect. Dan has all my respect (check out the photos of the place)!

We both got quite a bit of writing done, and had a wonderful time in this amazing cottage. On our last day, we went to explore the region a bit, and had some amazing clouds accompanying us čÖé Ok, enough written, got a more important piece of writing to do…
